Origin
The cucumber (Cucumis sativus) is believed to have originated in the Indian subcontinent, specifically in the region of modern-day India and Pakistan. It has been cultivated for thousands of years and is considered one of the oldest cultivated crops in the world. From there, it spread to other parts of Asia, including China and the Middle East, where it became an important ingredient in various cuisines. Cucumbers were later introduced to Europe by the Romans and eventually made their way to the Americas during the age of exploration. Today, cucumbers are grown and consumed worldwide, with different varieties and cultivars adapted to different climates and culinary traditions.
